Real-Life Construction Inspires My Building Style in Simulation Games

I really enjoy playing building and management games made by Dionic Software. I am not from architecture field but I like designing small towns and buildings in games.
Sometimes I try to follow real construction logic when I make houses, like using balance between structure and looks. In my country, we do construction mostly with concrete, so I always imagine how it will look if I build same in real life. Do you also take ideas from real construction or architecture when you design your towns or houses in the game? I would love to know how other players plan their builds.

Actually I always build my cities on the grid and according to the production chains. Because I always play on highest difficulty, I need a specific layout to avoid traffic jams. So actually I’m doing sort of the opposite of what you are doing. My cities always end up looking like circuit boards. Here is an old screenshot from a different forum post:

That being said, I also want to try out a much more organic style where I ditch the grid and build everything in small villages, medium towns and maybe one or two big cities. All connected by a more realistic road network. I imagine it can look pretty amazing.

Do you mind sharing a few screenshots of your place? There’s also the Post a picture of your city thread that would love to have it.
