Very early comments on V 4.0

Great to see daisies in the grass. Thank you. I look forward to seeing more flowers sometime in the future.

The pause time function is a bit flakey, Sometimes it works, sometimes not and it can even get stuck in the “On” position which is great for getting ahead but a bit of a problem to toggle off. I reset the key bindings to get the game going again. Actually, this is a “cheat” mode. I know some players love cheats so it needs attention to work smoothly, or, perhaps removing; I am really not sure.

Your head filling the screen when trying to place roofs is a little frustrating but overcome by repositioning character.

A real problem is the way the potential villagers wonder off while you speak to them, Frequently this results in their text bubbles moving off screen or truncated by the screen edge. The bubbles also jump around all over the screen. It would be better, imo, if possible, to pause the game while in conversation or to have a fixed dialogue box centre bottom of screen as in “Oblivion GOTY edition” for example.

Um, I have a really bad habit of looking for exploits and using them! Oh boy! is there one first day if in the tutorial mode. Just keep on developing, researching, building as long as you like before sleeping. Ignore the “You need to sleep” instruction and have a three star home to welcome your first villager. Whoops, this kills challenge. (Don’t you dare change it  I will have to work harder at the start if you do!)

Forage goods still spread all over the map rather than being efficiently collected.

Wooden roofs do not mesh properly with the walls so there is a gap left between roof and walls. Perhaps this is deliberate. For me, personally, I choose to jump directly from the pretty and practical thatch roofs to tiles. BTW, will thatched roofs (and torches for that matter) become a fire hazard in the future?

I love the extension to the research tree though I have not yet explored it fully.

Will we eventually be able to research hipped roof pieces? These would make building attractive and varied cottages much easier, Also gable end pieces would be lovely, A full roof piece is too large for realistic roof building.

I love the addition of uses for fibre. Too much is still gathered so the rubbish bin is very useful. Further to this, if I accidently make too much of a crafted item I will not be likely to use in the future it would be nice if there was a way of salvaging some materials rather than just binning them.

Buffs from food consumption by character is great, thanks.

Hey Wai, thanks for all the feedback!

I’ll only respond to the ones where I have more stuff to say, but I’ve read and noted it all

What exactly do you mean?
I mean, yeah we do pause the time in some circumstances, but what actions are you doing that pause the time and where it can get “stuck paused”?
Also, not sure if it’s exploitable, because if the time is paused, the character can’t move. Or are we talking about different features?

Thanks, fixed!

Pressing F11, according to your key binding information, is a toggle which pauses time. However, it, seems to still allow your character to do any normal activity. This means that it is possible to research, collect and build on day one. I pushed this right up to researching level 2 books and several other associated research. This enabled me to start with a level 3 house (beds, bookcases, glass etc). Now, though this was an interesting experiment, I don’t think that it is quite in the spirit of the game. However, the F11 key does not seem to work reliably. I found this option while checking out other key bindings and could not resist testing it. What it does not appear to do is freeze the character or, for that matter regeneration of forage which is what I would have expected. Perhaps this is only something which happens in the tutorial - I have not tested for this.

Since starting this post I have, more than once, fallen asleep while crafting and researching. The time display is absent while in these modes so it is easy to miss the sleep warning. It would be wrong to freeze time during these activities so, is there a way to have the time display while using them?

One other minor irritation. In some cases the activate key (right mouse button) does not work if you have an item equipped. This is especially noticeable if you have an axe equipped when you need to sleep.

Thanks for fixing the speech bubble problem. I haven’t tried this yet, so look forward to the improvement tomorrow.

Ah I see.

I think this is unclear in the keybinding settings: The F11 key is in the photo-mode section. It unfreezes time because by default, time is frozen in photo mode.
The thing that you seem to be describing with the day not advancing is a tutorial-thing on the very first day only.

If you can observe the F11 key doing anything in normal gameplay (like stopping the day time from advancing) let me know (except for the tutorial day one).

Good point on the clock while crafting, will consider it!
The axe-sleeping thing is noted, we didn’t get to that behaviour in time for the release date.
