Well, that’s an uncommon way to see Founders’ Fortune videos It was probably the Letsgameitout video, lots of people loved that - and it is really funny.
One of KSP’s community managers early on @SkunkMonkey is here too by the way, just a couple of posts above you. I’m trying to make modding easy, but the KSP modding community is probably one of the highest bars there are
I just checked the version history… it was 8 years ago when I got into KSP when it was not much like what it is now… It was more of a hillarious kerbal mudering simulator with a very creative view on ‘physics’. Half the fun was finding creative and unusual ways new ways to break the physics engine. Early days yet for FF. hope you get the chance to hae enough sales to be able to build FF to that level.
Thanks for the mention @Daniel! One of the big reasons KSP got as big as it did was due to its modability. The best part was how amazed HarvesteR (KSP creator) was at what modders were doing with the game.
Modding can give a game extreme lifetime too. Open as much as you can to modders and they will keep it around a long time.
Welcome fellow kiwi , I’m the same age and have been playing games for 20 plus years where abouts are you from in NZ ? Alot of the games you mentioned I liked to like Kotor and Kotor 2 , what sort of game is your friend designing and does it have a website or anywhere we can see it’s development ?
Hi Guys!
I found your game on Steam and purchased it.
I have played many colony sims/base building games over the years. Most recently I’ve played and enjoyed Rimworld and Oxygen Not Included.
My “Favorite Game” is the one I’m playing and enjoying at the moment and return to when I want to play something fun.
In my opinion, well done Indie games are very bit as good as the pricey big budget games. I’ve played everything Bethesda and would say that Stardew Valley is just as enjoyable.
I like where you are going with Founders’ Fortune and hope you continue to expand and improve it.
Hey!
I just had to respond to a fellow Atarian!
My first computer was the Atari 800 (purchased new in 1980). I still have it along with the XE and ST (all purchased new). One of the saddest moments of my life was when I finally had to admit that Atari was dead and I had to move to the PC.
I started teaching myself programming by studying and modifying Atari Basic games.
I’m a recently retired software developer now and I’ve started dabbling with Unity.
Welcome mate glad your enjoying the game , my first PC was a commodore 64 , I love this game too I think continued expansion will see the developers rewarded with a huge growing mass of players , even if they haven’t been there since the start
Years ago we seemed to have a rush of colony sims, which was nice - unfortunately most of them don’t seem to be panning out. Like many I sort of drifted, until I recently came across a reddit thread advertising this game (I’m subbed to r/BaseBuildingGames).
Have you played other colony simulators before? Base building games? What do you like about them?
I’ve always loved the concept of a mashup between RTS and RPG and sim games since forever, but it’s only in the last decade we finally saw attempts. I’d say what interests me the most is the idea of a group of individuals (versus RTS’ faceless disposable slaves) building a colony and defending it, with RPG mechanics to add goals and nuance beyond simply “build and destroy”.
What’s your favorite other game? Why?
Like most other oldsters (I’m over 40) who grew up on games I play a wide variety of stuff. Hard to decide on just one favourite game - probably Terraria though I could just as easily name a JRPG or ARPG.
What’s your opinion on Indie games vs big budget blockbusters?
Other than level of polish due to budget I don’t think you can definitively say that indies are this versus triple A are that. I like to think that indies have more creative freedom when it comes to genre mashups though. I mean, remember the voxel games rush a while back? I don’t remember seeing any triple As get on that.
I really love the progress this game has made. I’ve followed a slew of other titles since the voxel builder rush a while back and as you know most of those didn’t work out.
hello !
For first, I’m french, so please if my english seems a litlle bad, my apologize…
I have found founder’s fortune searching in steam some games looking like Kingdom’s and castle or another simulation of mid-age life.
And I falled in love with this game, although I really don’t like" the sims"
So after two tries to do a living colony after winter of war, I play with some helping mods on steam like no aging, god mod (to no see my personages dying the first year and my colony disepear).
I am 60 years old and I play all the time on video games, as Zelda and Skyrim. But I find so interesting to create a colony and the gestion of life but it’s been only 15 days I play. So let’s see.
thank you for this forum where I could learn so good ideas and see so good sreenshots.
I am Mickey103 from the Netherlands and I am 48 years old.
I do love gaming, I’ am an F1 fan, looking at darts and cycling and in my other spare time I have done some moderators activity during YT and Twitch livestreams.
I recently stop that after three years.
I still do volunteers works for the local Festival week in our town
How did you find out about Founders’ Fortune?
Via a Game friend who also played this game.
Have you played other colony simulators before? Base building games? What do you like about them?
Yes, a have already played multiple games in Base game building and also strategy games and simulation games.
What’s your favorite other game? Why?
Not this kind of game, but very popular for me is Farming Simulator
I do like this game it is very interesting and I already played it for some time now
Hi, I am Elias. I am from Denmark and I am 15 years old
I play a lot of games, but other than that I watch F1, I run quite a lot and I also like cycling. Another genre of games I am really into is sim racing.
I am in 9th grade and will be heading to college next year.
I found out about this while looking for some new games to play. I was very intrigued by the graphics at first. But once i looked more into it it really began looking nice.
Yes, I have played a lot it is really one of my favorite genres. I like the grind that comes with games like this. I can really sink a lot of hours into games like this
For this, I will probably have to say project cars. This is because of my love of cars and racing.
Other than that, I really like Factorio and City skylines.
I much prefer Indie games, I really feel like there is lacking creativity and passion in the big-name aaa games. I feel like when I am playing a AAA shooter it feels like every other AAA shooter I have played. Compared to an indie game where almost every game feels new and fresh and most of the time there is also great communities around them.
I did just fall over this amazing game on steam and I really like it. Then I found out you can mod it and I tweak and twist now more then I play, just learning modding a little bit.
Mostly I look at what other people do and try to play with that and change that to see balance and fun.
Hello everyone. Greetings from Puerto Rico. Just got this game and I am enjoying it so much. Very well done. Looking forward to learning and making some mods for it.
I joined the forum a short while ago now, but I guess I never did introduce myself… So:
As you probably can guess, my name is Charlotte. I’m 46 years old and from Sweden. I’ve been working as an environmental health officer for about a dozen years but left my job for various reasons in 2019 just before the pandemic started… So, I’m currently unemployed and finally getting into learning something new. I used to make VRML objects for a community called Cybertown from the late 90ies to about 2010 or so, when it closed. I have wanted to get back into making 3D items ever since but has kept hoping for something I could learn to hand code as that was what I did with VRML. No such luck, though, and I’ve now given in and started learning Blender. I’ve also wanted to mod several other games but my coding knowledge is rather skimpy, so Founder’s Fortune seems a good place to start.
** How did you find out about Founders’ Fortune?*
I got it through GOG - I always keep an eye out for base building games and the like. The more customizable the better.
** Have you played other colony simulators before? Base building games? What do you like about them?*
I like it when I can plan the structure of a colony or similar, and make things work smoothly while also being pleasing aesthetically. I also tend to want to make things both practical and pleasing to the villagers even though I KNOW they’re just computer things and don’t have feelings
** What’s your favourite other game? Why?*
There’s not just one, and even though they’re favourites it can be years between my visits. I like Guild Wars 2, even though there’s no base building there. Used to love Ceasar III but it’s aged a bit. I do love the Subnautica games and the base building that’s included there. I play Banished, which is another village builder where I like the basics but find that there’s lots of waiting time. I generally play that at 5* the speed because otherwise I’d die of boredom before anything happens. I think Founder’s Fortune has managed to balance that well and for the most part I play at normal speed (I pretty much only speed it up at night if everyone’s sleeping).
Another hobby of mine is painting and game graphics have always been super important to me. It doesn’t matter how good the game is, if I find the graphics displeasing.
Not sure there’s much else to tell. I have two cats, one of which likes to sleep on me (arms and desk and drawing tablet) when I’m at the computer, which tends to slow down my progress on pretty much anything. (The other one settles for sitting next to me and meowing incessantly because it wants me to come and play.)
PS: I tried using italics to make the questions separate but only got **?
