Loving the game after returning after a while, only to notice that your are stopping development on IS. Well, to me, a former games developer, there are many things left unfinished in this game. Certain buildings do not work as intended (methane power plant water, trains failing to switch tracks properly, road routing traffic system needs another look), among a few.
IS is a great foundation, but there is definitely room for growth and improvements. Maybe consider adding some charm to the game by adding more items to enhance the game.
Corporation and businesses, complete with names, slogans, and background stories.
Zoning for residential, civilian government and buildings, like police/fire/hospitals/museums/libraries, more types of schools, City Halls in settlements that are spread out. (think mining towns complete with mayors and staff) trash collection & recycling systems.
Natural disasters like quakes, crazy weather, asteroids and meteors, fires, etc… Some of which might be defend-able with an added meteor defense weapon, storm/weather dissipation structures, etc..
Terrain editing. Being able to build trenches, tunneling and underground structures, Creating a “cut” or shelf for realistic road and rail around deep valleys and mountains. Tunneling through mountains for roads and underground structures would add to the realism.
Map Making tools for all. Talk about game replay-ability.
Some of this could be released as paid DLC as well, further funding future development with larger/more difficult updates. Unless your decision is decidedly made to cancel future work, then I would probably quit playing altogether. No sense playing and living with a game that will not likely get anything new or get fixed. I’ll add that If there is anything I can do in terms of development, By all means yell!
If we’re being honest, this game has a lot of potential—and while it works well overall, it still suffers from several noticeable issues. I’m confident the developers will make a sequel at some point since this title clearly brought in some profit, but my main concern isn’t about adding new features—it’s about fixing what’s already broken.
This is one of my daily go-to games, alongside the RCT series, and it’s frustrating to see glitches that persist after so long. They’re not game-breaking, but they’re noticeable enough to affect the experience. I agree with most of your points, but I wouldn’t call this a full-fledged simulation game. Some of the features people ask for would make more sense in something like SimCity.
Because the game takes place on another planet, adding things like weather systems or crime mechanics doesn’t really fit the setting. On Earth, those elements would make sense—but here, survival is more about managing logistics and routing than anything else. To me, this is primarily a traffic-routing sim, and while it could have been much more, it’s still fun for what it is.
A sequel would be the perfect opportunity to expand on these ideas and build those features into the design from the start instead of trying to retrofit them later. (Especially Multiplayer support). Realistically, adding complex systems to a game that wasn’t built to support them just isn’t going to happen, and that’s something players have to accept.
If the community wants to help, compiling a list of the current issues and presenting them constructively could be a good step—but based on what the developers have said, it sounds like this game is more or less finished. Unfortunately, that means we’ll likely have to wait for a sequel to see any major improvements or new content.
The game has pretty great support for modding, so that’s another avenue where improvements and new content can come in. I suggest you check out what’s already there (not much to be honest) and maybe it helps a little bit with some of your concerns.
Then, if you are a game developer you should be able to do mods yourself
I’m glad you enjoy InfraSpace so much, unfortunately the codebase isn’t set up super well for long-term development or maintenance. Changes take a long time to make and there is some risk of breaking other features in the process. We’re trying to do this a lot better with our next game.
That being said, we still do release bugfix updates. Currently there is not a lot on our list to fix for the next update, so if you can provide a list of things that are broken in your world with reproduction steps, that’d be great.
I really enjoy this game as a first-time player, however I do still agree there are big issues with the game.
To begin, the routing systems for traffic are awful. I have tried to use the solutions given like districts, but they just don’t work well.
I play the game without the traffic features because I just want to build up a large city, and I still have issues with the traffic and cars just…not getting to their destination? I can’t tell, besides the fact that I produce enough of all resources yet am always losing housing to lack of resources.
